The semester credit hour is used to determine a student’s study load. One semester credit hour typically represents 50 minutes of classroom instruction, or the equivalent in other instructional formats, per week for the duration of a standard semester. Two to three hours of laboratory work are generally considered equivalent to one hour of classroom instruction. One credit is awarded for the successful completion (grade of D or better) of one semester credit hour of work.
