Newly Admitted Students

Newly admitted students who have not already met with their academic adviser and registered for classes can request a major change through the Admissions tile in accesSPoint. After registering for classes, students should follow directions for current undergraduate students.

Current Undergraduate Students

Current undergraduate students can change majors, minors, or certificates by contacting the academic department that offers the program. In many cases, students who are assigned to an adviser in the Academic and Career Advising Center can initiate a major, minor and/or concentration change with their academic adviser, as well.

Academic departments decide whom they will accept as major, minor and certificate candidates. Any admission, audition, or declaration criteria should be made available on the program’s website.

It is the students’ responsibility to ensure they complete all the requirements for their major, minor and/or certificate(s). It is recommended that they check regularly with an adviser in each department in which they have a major, minor and certificate to make sure they meet minimum requirements. Requirements for academic programs can be found on the Standards tab of the academic program in the University Catalog.

Undecided on a Major

Students who have not yet decided on a major work with an adviser in the Academic and Career Advising Center (ACAC), 141 Library and Student Resource Center (SRC). ACAC advisers guide students in 1) developing educational plans, 2) working through the decision-making process for selecting a major, and 3) clarifying the relationship between educational plans and career goals.

Removed from Major

Students who have been removed from their major due to enrollment management policies or because they cannot reach or maintain the academic standards set by their desired major, may either declare a different major or meet with staff in the Academic and Career Advising Center, 141 Library and Student Resource Center (SRC), 715-346-3226. ACAC staff can assist in developing a new educational plan and exploring alternative majors.
