HIST 313 - History of Islam


Description:
Study of the historical and religious development of Islam from 600 CE to present. Particular emphasis on the diversity of Islamic belief and experience in a variety of historical and cultural contexts. Topics include: the role of Islamic belief in political conflict (and vice versa), the Sunni/Shiite split, forms of Islamic mysticism, and interpretations of Islamic law (Sharia).
