Early Childhood Education Add-On

To receive certification, fulfill these requirements:

Professional Preparation

Complete a bachelor’s degree and/or certification program with a major in Elementary Education including EDUC 398 ; and PSYC 260 or HD 261 or HD 265 .

Required courses

ECED 564 - Curriculum and Methods for Young Children 1-4 cr.
ECED 564 Project
ECED 566 - Curriculum and Methods for the Emergent Reader-Writer 2 cr.
ECED 660 - Home, School, Community Agencies 1-4 cr.
ECED 660 Project
HD 563 - Development of the Preschool Child 1-3 cr.
HD 564 - Infant Development and Programming 1-3 cr.
HD 565 - Guidance of Young Children 1-3 cr.

Student Teaching in Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten

EDUC 398 - Student Teaching 1-16 cr. or
EDUC 798 - Graduate Internship 1-6 cr. or
EDUC 781 - Teaching Students with Disabilities Practicum-Internship 1-8 cr.

State-Mandated Tests

Demonstrate content knowledge by either:

obtaining a 3.00 or higher in required coursework for this license, or
submitting passing scores on the required Praxis Subject Assessment exams.

You must meet one of the above requirements for teacher licensure.

Pass the state-mandated Foundations of Reading Test. Teachers with a Wisconsin lifetime license are not required to pass this test.
