This minor is administered by the Department of English .

Consists of 24 credits beyond the General Education Composition requirement.

Required, 12 credits

ENGL 253 - Introduction to Creative Writing 1-3 cr.
ENGL 353 - Advanced Creative Writing 1-3 cr. (3 cr of each focus)
ENGL 377 - Contemporary Poetry 3 cr. or
ENGL 378 - Contemporary Fiction 3 cr.

Electives, 12 credits

Three credits must be 300 level. Select from:

ENGL 248 - Introduction to Environmental and Science Writing 3 cr.
ENGL 250 - Intermediate Composition 3 cr.

ENGL 348 - Advanced Environmental and Science Writing 3 cr.
ENGL 349 - Editing and Publishing 3 cr.
ENGL 350 - Creative Nonfiction 3 cr.
ENGL 351 - Advanced Business Writing 3 cr.
ENGL 353 - Advanced Creative Writing 1-3 cr.
ENGL 354 - Advanced Scientific and Technical Writing 3 cr.
ENGL 357 - Independent Writing 1 cr.
ENGL 358 - Outdoor Writing 3 cr.
ENGL 359 - Novel Writing 3 cr.
ENGL 388 - Editorial Process 3 cr.

Chair may approve as elective up to 6 credits of English Department courses not specified above.

Note for Writing Minors

A student may declare a Creative Writing Minor or a Professional Writing Minor, but not both. Neither Writing Minor is teacher certifiable, but a Writing Minor is generally favored by public school employers as a complement to the English Major.
