This major is administered by the Department of History and International Studies .

 

If you major in History you will learn essential skills in research, writing, and analysis. UWSP’s history program combines a strong liberal arts foundation with professional bridges that develop specific in-demand skill sets and dispositions, making our graduates especially competitive job applicants. If you are pursuing a career in history teaching you are encouraged to pursue the major in History and Social Studies Education.

Consists of a minimum of 42-43 credits, plus either completion of a certificate, minor, or other major OR at least one bridge to a professional career listed below.

Gateway, 3 credits


Thematic Study, 24 credits


Complete 24 additional credits in history courses, not including HIST 300 , HIST 400 , or HIST 450 , with at least 21 credits at the 200-level or above and at least 15 credits at the 300-level or above.

At least 6 credits must be from the global or non-U.S. regional courses listed below:

Field Experience, 3 credits


300-Level Social Science Courses, 3 credits


Choose 3 credits in a 300-level Social Science course in one of the following disciplines: Anthropology, Economics, Human Geography, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology.

Professional Bridge


Complete at least one of the following bridges into a professional career, or complete a certificate, minor, or additional major.

Business Management Bridge, 13 credits


Nonprofit Management Bridge, 12 credits


Public History Bridge, 13 credits
