Earth and Space Science Certificate

This certificate program is intended for, but not limited to, those students pursuing a degree in science education. The certificate can be completed concurrently with your undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences with teaching intent or a related field. The certificate does not meet the requirements for an Earth/Space license through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

This certificate is administered jointly by the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Geography and Geology .

Consists of a minimum of 15 credits.

Required, 12 credits

ASTR 205 - The Solar System 4 cr.
ASTR 206 - Stars and Stellar Systems 4 cr.
GEOG 105 - The Dynamic Earth 3 cr.
GEOL 106 - Earth History 1 cr.

Electives to meet credit requirement

Choose from:

ASTR 306 - Observational Astronomy 3 cr.
GEOG 208 - Weather and Climate 3 cr.
GEOG 308 - Climate: Past, Present, and Future 3 cr. or
GEOL 308 - Climate: Past, Present, and Future 3 cr.
GEOG 312 - Geomorphology 3 cr.
GEOL 104 - Physical Geology 4 cr.
GEOL 330 - Environmental Geology 3 cr.
GEOL 370 - Glacial Geology 3 cr.

GPA Requirements

The minimum grade point requirements to be met: A minimum grade of Cmust be attained in each course taken, and a minimum GPA of 2.75 among certificate courses must be attained.
