This major is administered by the area of Theatre in the School of Performing Arts .
Choose this option if you are a multitalented performer and wish to pursue a professional career in musical theatre. The program requires study in three primary areas: acting, dance, and voice, as well as courses in music theory, piano, theatre, and musical theatre history.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Effectively demonstrate the integration of acting, singing and dance in the creation of a believable and stylistically appropriate character.
- Demonstrate basic skills in music theory, piano playing, sight-singing advanced skills in vocal training and styles in order to effectively prepare and perform in a professional performance setting.
- Identify the creators, concepts and historical events that contributed to the development of musical theatre genres and the resulting diverse repertoire of these styles.
- Evaluate live dramatic performances critically and positively for the purpose of refining your own creative process.
- Practice the basic business procedures of the actor’s profession, including audition techniques, resumes, rehearsal etiquette and professional communication.
Consists of 84 credits.
