This major is administered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences .

Program Learning Outcomes

The Mathematics Program Learning Outcomes are:  

  1. PROBLEM SOLVING:   
  1. you can create mathematical models  
  2. you can apply problem solving techniques in new situations
  1. MATHEMATICAL TECHNIQUES:  you will demonstrate a set of mathematical techniques and be able to use them in appropriate situations
  2. PATTERNS:  you can recognize, characterize and generalize patterns using mathematical language
  3. COMMUNICATION:  you can accurately interpret, clearly write and orally express mathematical concepts in a variety of settings including algebra and mathematical analysis. This includes mathematical terminology, mathematical theorems and mathematical proofs
  4. CONNECTIONS:   
  1. you will recognize and articulate how mathematical ideas interconnect
  2. you will recognize and articulate how to apply mathematical ideas in contexts outside of mathematics 


Consists of a minimum of 43 credits.

Note: Required courses marked ** below have Math prerequisites. Depending on your placement score, additional courses may be required.

Interdisciplinary Requirements, 0-8 credits


Take at least 8 credits numbered 101 or higher (courses numbered 100 do not count) of courses in BIOL, CHEM, PHYS, ASTR, CIS, CNMT or WD.

Or complete a major or minor other than those offered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences .
