Medical Laboratory Science: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Option, BS

The major is administered by the area of Medical Laboratory Science  in the School of Health Sciences and Wellness .

 

Academic requirements - MLS: MLT to MLS

  • The Bachelor of Science General Education Program requirements.
  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technician from a nationally accredited program.
  • Current national board certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician, such as MLT(ASCP), MLT(AAB), or MLT(AMT). 

Note that transfer equivalent courses typically completed with Associates in Medical Laboratory Technician Associate programs fill 42-50 credits of requirements listed below. Please meet with your academic adviser for your specific plan of study.

 

Consists of 106 credits. 

Note: Required courses marked ** below have Math prerequisites. Depending on your placement score, additional courses may be required.

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Option


Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) clinical practicum


Take 24 credits in an affiliated clinical laboratory. Please note that meeting or exceeding the requirements for eligibility to apply for the clinical practicum does not guarantee placement. Two or more years full-time work experience as a board-certified and/or State licensed Medical Laboratory Technician may earn Prior Learning credit applied to Clinical Practicum 1 requirement. Work with the CLS Program Director for Prior Learning Assessment.

The UW-Stevens Point Medical Laboratory Science Program, Medical Laboratory Technician to Medical Laboratory Scientist Option, is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
