Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of CLS program, you will be proficient in the following entry level learning outcomes:

  1. Achieve scores of 60% or greater on the Pre-Clinical Competency Examination
  2. Complete a minimum of 800 hours of supervised clinical practicum with scores of 70% or higher on the final evaluation forms in each discipline, prior to graduation
  3. Achieve a grade of a C or better in your Capstone course, CLS 499 Advanced Clinical Studies
  4. Achieve scores at 70% or greater on the Comprehensive Examination administered at the end of the Clinical Practicum
  5. Achieve scores at levels equal or greater than the national average on the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) National Board of Certification (BOC) Examination


Includes the academic program (117-118 on-campus credits) and the clinical practicum (24 off-campus credits).

Apply to the appropriate professional program


Acceptance is based on academic credentials, interviews, and available clinical sites. You are eligible to apply for an appropriate clinical practicum after you are formally accepted into the professional program.

Medical technology clinical practicum


Take 21 credits in an affiliated clinical laboratory. Please note that meeting or exceeding the requirements for eligibility to apply for the clinical practicum does not guarantee placement.
