This major is administered through the area of Media Studies in the School of Design and Communication .
If you are interested in declaring a Media Studies major, you should enroll in MSTU 1 .
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Media Studies Program, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of media form, function, and history
- Design and produce media applying core media skills, techniques, and aesthetics, considering both form and content
- Perform effective public presentations for a variety of audiences and across media platforms
- Write effectively for a variety of purposes, situations, and audiences
- Evaluate self- and peer-produced work applying professional standard appropriate to form, function, and content
- Engage in collaborative projects and evaluate appropriate ethical practices
Consists of a minimum of 43 credits in Media Studies courses.

Upper-level requirement, 18 credits
Eighteen credits must be in courses numbered 300 or above.
Media Studies Core, 13-18 credits
Internship or Externship, 1-6 credits
You must also complete an internship or externship:
Quantitative and Social Science Methods, 6-7 credits
Choose one of the following two course sequences:
Area Requirements, 24 credits
15 credits must be 300-level or higher; minimum 6 credits from each area:
Media History, Theory Criticism Area
