Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Family and Consumer Sciences Program, you will be able to:
- Explain how best practices are developed based on the existing body of research evidence
- Develop and evaluate effective health and human development programs
- Recognize personal biases and explain the value of multiple perspectives and suspending judgment when interacting with others
- Demonstrate confidence and competence in a professional setting
Consists of 55-61 credits.

Second major, minor, or certificate program
Completion of a second major, minor, or approved certificate program is recommended to fulfill the university 120 credit requirement. If you are seeking a career as a child life specialist, complete the Child Life Specialist Preparation Certificate .
Field Work
You may complete your field work requirements in one of two ways:
- Complete a minimum of three practicum credits of Study Abroad, International Service Learning, or other fully immersed diversity service learning experience, plus at least three additional credits earned in local experience.
OR
- Complete a total of 12 field work credits.
Experiential Learning Activity
Experiential Learning Activity requirement completed in consultation with CLFS Academic Adviser.
For those seeking a career as a child life specialist:
If you require affiliation with a school for practicum/internship in a child life setting, you will be required to register for 3 credits of HD 497 for practicums. You will be required to register for 6 credits for internships unless you have completed an approved diversity immersion service learning trip, in which case you will be permitted to register for 3 credits.
