Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the M.S. degree in Education, you will demonstrate:
- The application of graduate-level knowledge in core and research areas, as well as in the chosen emphasis area or, if seeking a general Master’s degree with no emphasis area, electives.
- The ability to integrate content knowledge into curricular, instructional, and assessment strategies for students at different educational levels or in the Master’s student applicable professional area.
- The ability to formulate, implement, and sustain evidence-based practices in an educational or professional environment.

Required Program Components
1. Develop an approved program of study in conjunction with your assigned graduate adviser and submit to the SOE Office of Graduate and Innovative Programs
2. Earn 30 credits in graduate courses
Fifteen of these credits must be at the 700 level.
3. Core courses, 12 credits from the following:
4. Research course, 3 credits
5. Elective courses, 15 credits
Any graduate-level course.
6. Complete a thesis or comprehensive portfolio prior to applying for graduation, 0-6 elective credits
(These credits may count towards the 15-credit Elective requirement)
Thesis Option: The thesis can be qualitative or quantitative research. It requires an oral proposal with your lead thesis adviser, a written thesis, and an oral final defense. You may repeat enrollment in EDUC 799 (Thesis) each semester in which you are involved in your thesis, until the 6-credit requirement is completed.
Comprehensive Portfolio Option: If you elect to not complete a thesis, you will be required to complete a comprehensive portfolio developed throughout the program. You will be provided with portfolio guidelines.
Note
Teaching licensure can be integrated into the Master of Sciences in Education for qualifying candidates.
