Forestry: Ecosystem Restoration and Management Option, BS


This major is administered by the Forestry  Discipline.

NOTE: Enrollment cap is in effect for this option. Consult the forestry coordinator for advising information and application criteria.

Program Learning Outcomes

As a graduate of the Forestry: Ecosystem Restoration and Management Option, you will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate broad knowledge of forest ecology and biology by:
  1. identifying tree species and associated basic silvics of Lake States tree species, and
  2. applying basic principles of forest ecology
  1. Complete forest measurement activities common to professional foresters by:
  1. interpreting maps and legal descriptions, and
  2. identifying data collection methods and analyses appropriate to specific situations
  1. Develop sound forest management strategies by:
  1. proposing silviculturally sound techniques to manage forests, and
  2. using principles of forest finance and financial calculations within the forest decision-making context  
  1. Complete and present a forestry capstone project by: 
  1. preparing and presenting (written and orally) a sound, option-specific management plan that demonstrates a broad understanding of restoration of terrestrial and aquatic systems and land management decision-making based on ecologic, social and economic factors; and 
  2. demonstrating the ability to write and speak in a professional, technically competent manner
  1. Develop confidence in the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform as a professional in your chosen option within the Forestry Program  


Consists of a minimum of 103 credits.
