Linguistics Minor

This minor is administered by the Department of English .
The ability to communicate through language is a fundamental part of being human. The linguistics minor allows students first to learn about the human capacity for language through the lens of linguistic models. Further connections are made by giving students freedom to draw on the theories and methodologies of related disciplines such as psychology, speech and hearing sciences, theatre, and the languages of the world. Students in the linguistics minor will investigate theoretical and applied approaches to the structure, variation, history, and social functions of human language.

World Language Courses, 0-8 credits
Complete a two-semester sequence of university entry-level world languages courses (101, 102). The requirement may be fulfilled through equivalent coursework or other language acquisition as demonstrated through a test-out policy (including Native American languages and American Sign Language). If your native language is not English and you can document formal high school or university study of your native language, you may use ENGL 101 and ENGL 202 , or ENGL 150 as a means of fulfilling this world language requirement.
