This certificate is administered by the School of Education Office of Graduate Studies & Professional Development .

You may complete this certification as a specialization in the Education-General, M.S.E. via Option B or by enrolling as a graduate special student and pursuing certification only.

NOTE: You must have three years of successful regular classroom teaching experience in addition to the coursework for certification.

Master’s Degree

Complete a master’s degree in an education field.

Reading Teacher (316) Certification

Meet the requirements for Graduate Certification Programs in Reading: Reading Teacher (316) Certification .

EDUC 328 - Reading in the Content Areas 3 cr. or
EDUC 528 - Reading in the Content Areas 3 cr.
EDUC 749 - Teacher Action Research in Reading 3 cr.
EDUC 750 - Supervision and Administration of Reading Programs 3 cr.
EDUC 751 - Wisconsin Reading Research Symposium 1 -3 cr.

Note:

Courses for reading specialist 17 license must be earned within a seven-year period (starting with beginning of the term the course was approved for your Program of Study).

Complete a bachelor’s degree and/or certification program with a major in Elementary Education including EDUC 398 ; and PSYC 260 or HD 261 or HD 265 .

HD 563 - Development of the Preschool Child 1-3 cr.
HD 564 - Infant Development and Programming 1-3 cr.
HD 565 - Guidance of Young Children 1-3 cr.

Student Teaching in Pre-Kindergarten/Kindgarten

EDUC 398 - Student Teaching Variable cr. or
EDUC 598 - Graduate Internship 1-6 cr. or
EDUC 781 - Teaching Students with Disabilities Practicum -Internship 1-8 cr.
