Special Education, BS

Teacher Certification:
Option A: Cross-Categorical Special Education - grades Kindergarten-12th grade - Does not include 4-year old kindergarten.
Option B: Early Childhood Special Education - grades birth-3rd grade.
Option C: certifications in both.
 
Note: a 2.75 GPA in the major and overall GPA is required for student teaching.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Special Education Program, you will be able to: 

  1. Design safe, inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments for students with exceptionalities. 
  2. Use knowledge of curricula to individualize learning for students with exceptionalities. 
  3. Use multiple methods of assessment and data-sources in making educational decisions for students with exceptionalities.  
  4. Select and adapt evidence-based instructional strategies to individualize learning for students with exceptionalities. 
  5. Demonstrate strategies for engagement with those who support students with disabilities, including families, other educators, related service providers, and community agencies.


Consists of 68 credits.

Note: Required courses marked ** below have Math prerequisites. Depending on your placement score, additional courses may be required.
