Marketing, BS


This major is administered by the area of Business  in the Sentry School of Business and Economics .

In the marketing major, you complete courses in core content from accounting, business, and economics, as well as courses specifically related to marketing. Upon completing the marketing major, you will be prepared to work professionally in the marketing world.

Program Learning Outcomes

Evidence of Marketing graduates’ level of preparation will be found in your ability to:  

  1. Analyze and Solve Business and Economics Problems: 
  1. you will be able to apply core concepts, models, and methods from business, accounting, and economics in identifying and solving problems
  1. Demonstrate the intercultural competencies necessary to thrive in an increasingly global marketplace: 
  1. you will be able integrate global perspectives and competencies in business interactions
  1. Appreciate the Importance of Behaving Professionally and Ethically:  
  1. you will be able to recognize and analyze an ethical dilemma, applying an appropriate ethical framework
  2. you will be able to work effectively with others in team settings 
  1. Communicate Effectively:
  1. you will be able to craft and present an effective professional oral presentation 
  2. you will be able to successfully write an effective professional report 
  1. Absorb concepts in areas of core business knowledge: 
  1. demonstrate literacy in accounting, economics, marketing, management, production, finance, information systems, and business law
  2. demonstrate proficiencies in the core areas of Marketing


Successfully complete a minimum of 69 credits in the Core and Marketing requirements as described below.

Note: Required courses marked ** below have Math prerequisites. Depending on your placement score, additional courses may be required.

Core


In general, try to complete the core classes in approximately this sequence. The courses near the beginning of the list serve as prerequisites for courses near the end of the list.

Note


If you anticipate doing advanced study in a field such as Actuarial Science, you should take MATH 225 .

Economics, 6 credits


Note


*If you are completing an Accounting major, you may substitute ACCT 370 .

Marketing


Successfully complete 24 credits of Marketing requirements in addition to the Core.

General Electives, 6 credits


Successfully complete an additional 6 credits in Sentry School, 200-level or above, not including ACCT 497 ACCT 498 BUS 320 BUS 496 BUS 497 BUS 498 ECON 200 ECON 497 , or ECON 498 . Courses taken to satisfy other requirements for the major do not count towards this requirement.
