BIOL 520 - Molecular Biology Description: Mechanisms that control the maintenance, expression, and evolution of genomes. Some topics include DNA, RNA and protein structure, DNA replication, mutation and repair, transcription and modifications, and gene structure, function and regulation. Examples from viruses, prokaryotes and eukaryotes will be compared. Theory and application of molecular techniques. Labs include various PCR techniques, DNA fingerprinting and capillary sequencing. Student research projects based on genetic identity and diversity. Available for undergraduate credit as BIOL 320 .
